Michael Cooper, Robert Parrish Recall Bruising 1980s Lakers-Celtics Rivalry

Jake Uitti, co-author on new books about “Coop” and “The Chief,” also relates their stories of playing against, and in one case almost joining, the Seattle Sonics.

In his new autobiography, Lakers great Michael Cooper calls the 1980s Boston Celtics “goons.”

In his new autobiography, Celtics great Robert Parrish calls the 1980s L.A. Lakers “the Fakers.”

And, oh by the way, they’re now friends. These are just a few of the gold nuggets author Jake Uitti uncovered in co-writing books with Cooper (“Coop”) and Parrish (“The Chief”). Both NBA Hall-of-Famers dish on the unforgettable, exhilarating – and often painful – Lakers-Celtics battles for NBA supremacy in the ’80s.

An author of several NBA books, plus non-basketball writing (he’s a musician, too), Uitti is based in Seattle. So in the Rain City Rebound-The Podcast below, we also made sure to get his takes on the return of the Sonics, Parrish almost being traded to Seattle, the one reason Cooper thought the Lakers beat the Sonics in a 1980 playoff series, Coop’s admiration for Spencer Haywood, and much more. Enjoy!
